It’s hard to believe that we have been away from Oregon 6 days! We arrived in Mexico City on Friday evening, it was such a long day that we had dinner in the hotel and went to be relatively early. Our hotel was the Hotel Emporio Reforma, a wonderful little boutique hotel (pictured). As luck would have it, The Gay Pride Celebration was just starting and boy did we get an eyeful! The celebration went on for two days! I’ve never seen so may Gays in one place in my life! Many of them were dressed up in Gay regalia of ever kind!

Saturday we went to the Museum of Anthology. A truly amazing place! We went to the Mayan & the Aztec exhibits only, because this museum is huge! But what we did see was unbelievable. So many relics from the past and in such good shape for being thousands of years old. These cultures were very warlike and things were very dark and menacing. Statues of Gods and Warriors that were so scary you almost feel you were there! Some of the statues like this one to the right of Statue of Aztec goddess Coatlicue. She is represented as a woman wearing a of writhing snakes and a necklace made of human hearts, hands, and skulls. Her feet and hands are adorned with claws and her breasts are depicted as hanging flaccid from nursing. Her face is formed by two facing serpents (after her head was cut off and the blood sput forth from her neck in the form of two gigantic serpents) referring to the myth that she was sacrificed during the beginning of the present creation. Most Aztec artistic representations of this goddess emphasize her deadly side, because Earth, as well as loving mother, is the insatiable monster that consumes everything that lives. She represents the devouring mother, in whom both the womb and the grave exist. Pretty scary huh? And that’s just one of them!

We finally leave the crazy, wild Mexico City and head for our home base, San Miguel de Allende. It’s really nice to be in such a beautiful small city of 80K people instead of Mexico City’s 21.8 million people in the Metropolitan Area!! The pace here is so much slower and the locals are so much friendlier.

Our apartment is very cute and we really like it, so close to the Centro area where everything is, and the neighborhood is very quiet, with the exception of our upstairs neighbors from Denver! They have to be the loudest family I’ve ever been around!!! We can hear every word that the couple and their two little devilish boys say! The boys scream to the top of their lungs or blow whistles, and the parents do little about it. Thankfully, they leave Friday!

Today Chris and I decided to have a day of relaxation and quiet by going to the spa for 2 hours of pure heaven! We both got the works for $50, hot stone therapy, full body massage, foot and leg exfoliation with aroma therapy massage, and a moisturizing facial, hot amethyst with ozone therapy. This was Chris’ first time for anything like this and was a little apprehensive at first, but afterward he was definitely a convert. He told them he would be back! After that we walked back to our apartment and picked up a fire roasted chicken and some beer and came home for a wonderful meal. Yes, Chris ate chicken! He said he was going to eat chicken when we came back to SMA (San Miguel de Allende) and he did. Oh my god! Unfortunately, the devil children are back home, so much for relaxation. Thank god for Friday!!!! 🙂
