This is one of my favorite Duke Ellington albums. A ton of music on 3 CDs, all three-minute masterpieces with Blanton’s bass and Webster’s tenor
This is the playlist for Duke Ellington’s birthday (April 29, 1919), but I mixed in some voice audio recordings of Duke from interviews and a few brief commentaries from Albert Murray (who passed last summer at age 97; wrote eloquently and intimately about Duke Ellington ), Gary Giddins, and Wynton Marsalis. Links to the audio of these audio clips will be posted soon. Personal commentary is missing. Without more self-discipline, writing new posts is a challenge.
